We want to thank all of you for your continued trust in our produce, our flowers and us. Last year was exceptional for our heirloom tomatoes and cut flowers and this year will be even better. There are some new activities for the 2008 season, -more delivery service, larger choices on gifts, and greater selection of heirloom tomatoes-to name a few. Read on for more information.

Heirloom tomatoes have a romantic history of being bred for taste rather than productivity or resistance to disease. Many seeds are of unknown origin, and some are thought to have been passed down through generations of family members.
What's exciting about heirlooms are their distinguishable differences-not just from mass produced tomatoes-but from each other. From blushing pink, white, green striped, pear shaped, ribbed sides, round, purple/black, yellow, and red, you can be adventurous with your choices. We will provide as much information as possible about our heirloom tomatoes, however, the history of each variety varies from one group to the next. And what a history some have! Check them out!
There are times that you need a special gift or want to say “Thank You” to someone and only a unique gift will do. We offer several sizes of herb baskets (your selection of herbs), cut flower bouquets, or baskets with fresh picked produce or heirloom tomatoes. We also have Gift Certificates you can purchase if you can’t decide. You tell us what you need and we will prepare a gift basket you will be proud to give!!
The newest member of the J&B Truck Farm staff is Maggie. This one-year-old Lab has been busy reorganizing everything in the hoop houses and things in general at J&B. She loves to run, chase squirrels, and bark at birds. We are glad she is here!
Every year our customers at Leavenworth Farmers Market become more aware of the importance of knowing where their food comes from, who grew it, what chemicals were used on the plants, and how important it is to support local farmers. We love customers asking questions and becoming more knowledgeable about their food. The market is ready to support you in your quest for fresh, healthy food for you and your family.
The fruits and vegetables you buy at Leavenworth Farmers Market are the freshest and tastiest available. Fruits are allowed to ripen in the field and brought directly to you---no long distance shipping, no gassing to simulate the ripening process, no sitting for weeks in storage. This food is as real as it gets---food fresh from local farms.
Shopping and cooking from the farmers market helps you and your family reconnect with the cycles of nature here in Kansas. The food you buy at the market is seasonal. It is fresh and delicious and reflects the truest flavors.
One of the best ways to reconnect with where your food comes from is to visit the market and meet the farmer who grew it. When you buy directly from our farmers you are re-establishing a time-honored connection between the eater and the grower.
Buying fresh and local from the market is fun. Coming to the market makes shopping a pleasure rather than a chore. No artificial lights and piped in music—the market is a community gathering place—a place to meet up with friends, share experiences of the past week, and bring your children, we LOVE KIDS at the market.
Food in the US travels an average of 1500 miles to get to your plate. This contributes greatly to pollution and creates excess trash with extra packaging. Food at the Leavenworth Farmers Market is transported Less Than 30 miles to get to you.
Never before has there been more attention paid to food locally grown, and Leavenworth Farmers Market is prepared to meet this interest and the benefits are huge! The 2008 season begins the first Saturday in May, May 3rd, at the corner of Delaware and Esplanade. Two weeks later, Wednesday, May 17th, the Wednesday afternoon market opens at Haymarket. Check the market website at www.leavneworthfarmersmarket.com for more details. SEE YOU AT THE MARKET!
